Two Weeks Feels Like A Lifetime!

Welcome to Austin...
I cannot believe I have already been in Austin two weeks! There is already so much to tell, and I'm sure I wont be able to recount even half of it, so as I remember in future posts I may mention things that have previously happened up until that point! Honestly, I can still remember packing up my car and the 20 plus hour drive it took to get here. At the same time, SO many things have happened in such a short time it feels like I have lived here for years. Apart from the regular getting lost, being freaked out by sideways traffic lights, and my gps always telling me to get on South when it really means North and vice versa, it really does feel live I've seen a lot. In reality, I have yet to see anything....  I ate a couple meals, have been running, and driven across campus! I have gone to Schlotzsky's (which I went by myself took my sandwich to go and ate it outside of the capital building... and I really only went there bc my sister and I use to enjoy eating there and I have not seen one in quite a while! Oh, and I ate Chipotle alone in my car in a parking lot on the verge of crying as my car had just signaled a check engine light..... Let me begin by describing that same morning I had been woken up by the apartment complex manager asking for the "real" roommate, and then an hour or so later found out there was a bomb threat on campus and they had evacuated around 70,000 people. Not only that, I live aprox 1 mile from the school, so that was definitely a rude awakening. Just to put this in perspective this all occurred in my first 24 hours!
A few really great things have happened in these first two weeks, I have made a ton of wonderful friends, have gone out a few more places, 6th street, new restaurants, and midnight rodeo! All of which had started to make me fall in love with Austin! In general I go running everyday, hang out with my roommates who I love, and spend time searching the internet looking for jobs!  A few hassles: I can not receive mail due to the fact I am subleasing so I still need to order a PO BOX, and the pool at my complex has not been open so I'm not getting to enjoy the weather! On that note, the weather here is amazing, apparantly I just missed the "hot" weather... but I tell you I think its perfect a general day low is 60 and high is in the 80's! It is beautiful. I remember driving into downtown that first day and when I was inline with the Longhorns stadium I was crying because I was so excited to be in such a big city with tall buildings and lots of people and things going on! Where I'm from has about 80,000 people and Austin has 700,000 so I'd say its a big change! I felt like I was in NY with these giant skyscrapers and actual city life!
In general everyone is really nice, helpful... and not that this is any surprise but most people here think I talk funny. But even back home and most everywhere else I go people tell me that. The majority of people I hang out with are Mexican, so I've been trying to work on my Spanish (as I really want to become fluent)... but that alone gives people here a laugh a country girl trying to talk Spanish to native speaking people. It's alright its all in good intent! Due to the fact most of my friends are Mexican.... when it turns to texting it becomes even funnier. So I'm use to texting haha when something is funny or lol... well people here do not send that! Infact, no one uses lol, so I get made fun of a lot for that! Many people here use jeje.... which I actually thought was their phones auto-correct screwing up.... nope I'm wrong, that is actually like the Spanish hahaha! Knowing a little bit of Spanish I always think I hear words that I really don't... mainly I hear "helado" (ice cream) when in reality they are saying "hablado" (spoken/ talking conjugated) Today, I heard my roommate say "munchies"... but actually she was saying something in Spanish and I still really have no idea what it meant, but it certainly wasn't munchies! HA!
I'm not sure what I plan to really get out of this blog, but I would like to keep track of new places I try, have an account of my active lifestyle, and just the everyday things life throws my way!
